Flower Power Florist

Flower Power @ The Paddock

Today I had the pleasure of photographing a local business in Oswaldtwistle, from the minute you walk in you will love it! So many quirky little things to look at and buy. This really is an asset for Oswaldtwistle.

So lets tell you a little bit of history about how the business started....

Kate started as a florist 32 years ago at Eastham's Florist in Accrington as a trainee, she then went on to work at various branches of Eastham's including Chorley, Burnley and Blackburn before leaving to work at the Flower Gallery in Ramsbottom. In 2013 the shop was sold and after being made redundant she took the plunge and opened Flower Power on Union Road in Oswaldtwistle.

After 5 years and the shop flourishing bigger premises were needed. The Paddock nurseries came up for sale, Julie, Kate's cousin and sister in law (only in Oswaldtwistle!!) who had been helping out decided to give up her part time, cushy office job to work silly hours in a freezing shed!

Flower Power @ The Paddock was born!

At this point they are primarily a florist selling seasonal plants..but they have plans to extend..so watch this space!

They both grew up and still live in Oswaldtwistle and they love being part of the local community. They both have families which keep them busy and when they are not in the shed they both like walking (usually with Orla) They enjoy eating out and enjoying their favourite tipple - Gin!

Kate is a bit of a hippy chick and likes going to festivals in the summer which is were the name 'Flower Power' came from, so when they moved they wanted to keep the name but incorporate the 'Paddock' as it is a well known landmark in Oswaldtwistle which apparently has been selling local produce and flowers for at least 70 years.

Julie puts up with Kate moaning a lot about how cold she is and her latest ailment but if Julie goes behind her counter or touches Kate's scissors there's trouble!

Well there you have my very first blog and what a good place to start in my local town, supporting a local business.

Please show your support and follow their page on Facebook and Instagram.
